Classrooms
We have four classrooms in total at our school that provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum in an exceptional environment. We hope that our school will be an extension of your home as we cultivate learning through play. Our low ratios allow for individualized learning and interactions between the children and our highly qualified teachers.
Age Groups & Ratios
Our Young Explorers (YE) classrooms are designed to provide age-appropriate choices, teacher and child-led activities, and group and individual exploration. All students in the YE classrooms will play outside (weather dependent) daily, participate in circle time, and engage in science, art, music, movement, and literacy play activities.
Beginning in the Young Explorers II classroom, our teachers will assist children with potty training. Potty training at The Applewood School is a natural and fluid part of the day. Our approach is positive and consistent, aiming to avoid any stress or pressure associated with the transition. We welcome parent suggestions based on what is working at home.
YE I students will begin the transition process to YE II following their second birthday. YE II students will begin the transition process to our Great Minds I classroom around the 34-month mark.
Our Great Minds (GM) classrooms are designed to provide age-appropriate choices, teacher and self-directed activities, as well as group and individual exploration. Students in the Great Minds classrooms will participate daily in outside play (weather dependent), circle time, music, art, science, reading, and math.
Our Great Minds classrooms and teachers foster the developmental needs of all students. Students are encouraged to freely explore their environment while cultivating skills they will need to begin Kindergarten.
GM I students will begin the transition process to GM II after they turn four.
