Philosophy

The Applewood School focuses on the development of a child as a whole person from ages 1 through 6. We believe that young children acquire knowledge through active participation in the world: building, playing, talking, listening, painting, running, reading, measuring, and through practical life experiences. We believe that children are exceptional individuals who learn from their surroundings.

With the help of parents, teachers, administration, and research-based practices, The Applewood School provides an atmosphere that delivers a positive learning experience. We strive to offer a setting that extends the home environment and provides a rich, diverse atmosphere in math, science, reading, writing, geography, music, the arts, and socio-cultural acceptance. We also prioritize outside time and nature based play.

Mission

The Applewood School’s mission is to offer a quality academic, professional, family-oriented, and proactive community comprised of compassionate educators, parents, and administrators. We strive to maintain low teacher-child ratios, as well as aim to provide a curriculum-rich environment that includes free play, educational instruction, and a variety of extracurricular activities (e.g., STEM, music, dance, yoga, soccer, gymnastics, and cooking).
