Philosophy

The Applewood School is a small, locally owned, private school focused on the development of a child as a whole person from one through six years of age. We believe that young children acquire knowledge through active participation in the world: building, playing, talking, listening, painting, running, reading, measuring, and practical life experience. We believe that children are exceptional individuals who gain knowledge through their surroundings.

The Applewood School, with the help of parents, teachers, administration, and research-based practices, will provide an atmosphere that delivers a positive learning experience. We strive to offer a setting that will provide an extension of the home environment and an atmosphere that is rich and diverse in math, science, reading, writing, geography, music, arts, and socio-cultural acceptance.

Daily activities always incorporate physical, social, emotional, intellectual and language development. We spend time outside every day running and playing while developing large motor skills.

Mission

Our mission is to offer a quality academic, professional, family-oriented, and pro-active community comprised of compassionate educators, parents, and administrators. We strive to maintain low teacher-child ratios. We aim to provide a curriculum-rich environment including free play, teacher- and child-led activities, and varied enrichments (e.g. STEM, music, dance, yoga, soccer, gymnastics and cooking classes).
